Tahith Chong put United ahead in the first half after winning the ball high up the pitch. Ole made nine changes at half-time and one of the substitutes, Facundo Pellistri, doubled United’s lead after rounding the goalkeeper.
It’s the first of five pre-season games for the Reds and there were plenty of positives to take away, mainly related to fitness but also the good performances of a number of young players as well as new signing Tom Heaton.
“I think you can see that they [Derby] may be a week ahead of us in their pre-season,” Solskjaer told MUTV post-match.
“It was the first game for us, and it takes a little bit of time to get into that match mode. But we’ve won the game and it’s good for these kids to feel that they’ve won the game.”
